VVDP: Hesperia residents, deputies, business come together to aid family
Editor’s Note: See a nice story too!
HESPERIA • For one Hesperia family, the Christmas spirit is alive an well. After a real-life Grinch made off with the family’s Christmas gifts Friday night, several people, including Hesperia San Bernardino County Sheriff’s station deputies and SuperTarget officials, came together to make sure the family had a happy holiday.
“It was great to see people come together,” said Sgt. Doug Hubbard on Christmas Eve.
On Friday night, deputies Jeff Woulfe and Scott LaFond were called out to the 11300 block of Balsam Avenue for a burglary call. Several witnesses reported seeing a man leaving the home carrying several bags, according to a news release. The man left the area in a 1990s light blue Honda with a dent on the fender.
What the man was carrying was the family’s Christmas gifts including a PS3 console, DVD movies, toys and all of the mother’s jewelry, officials said.

iePolitics: We were full of $#% once again
Remember this story: DUI Cops Well here is the followup: DUI Cops II
Then of course, there is this story: Bad Cops I noted that once the DR Nos. were provided , ya’ll shut up very quickly. I wonder what the Sheriff’s brass would find if the did a search of how many personnel looked up those DRs. So far, after reading the reports not a single person has come in here to say all the cops involved did a great job, they are heroes and we should cut them some slack, or that we are making something out of nothing despite the fact that someone lost his life possibly due to shoddy cop work. So where are all the naysayers? We are waiting for you to defend your brothers.

iePolitics: Google +
I am attempting to sign up for all major social media to promote the blog and my Examiner articles. In some cases I really don’t know what I am doing as was proved a few weeks ago when I tried to add friends to my LinkedIn account and ended up sending invite to those few thousand email address in my Google address book.
Now I just tried the same thing with Google+ and I have no clue if I added anyone or not. I guess I will know in a day or two.
Google+ is adding something like 600,000 new accounts a day so it seemed like a good idea. They say once you’ve tried Google+ you will never want to go back to Facebook.
Anyway, if anyone is already a member, I would appreciate an add so I can see why it is so much better than Facebook.
Jeffbullas.com: Will Google+ be the Second Biggest Social Network in 12 Months?
Hype and fad are terms that are kicked around as buzz about the latest trend hits the media and the social networks.
Questions are asked …..will the trend in killer high heels last one summer or two, will the fad to wear low hanging jeans become adopted by baby boomers (I wouldn’t like to see that), are tablets about to replace laptops and is the hardcover book about to become a souvenir reserved for the coffee table?
The answers to these billion dollar questions affects and disrupts industries sometimes for months, years or maybe forever. Nokia is fighting for survival after dominating its industry because it ignored a trend for to long. The once dominant Borders bookstore is closing its doors because carrying tens of thousands of printed books in bricks and mortar stores with expensive rented real estate and is a business model that doesn’t work anymore.

VVDP: Adelanto school trustee eyes 1st District Supervisor bid
Jermaine Wright campaigns on social media, but hasn’t officially declared
SAN BERNARDINO • Though Jermaine Wright Sr. appears to be campaigning online to run for San Bernardino County 1st District Supervisor, the Adelanto School District trustee said he’s still only pondering a bid in the June election.
Wright, co-owner of local child care and transportation companies, has set up campaign profiles on Facebook and Twitter. He touts himself as a conservative whose platforms include county transparency, common-sense business practices in government and private sector job creation.
But Wright said by phone he won’t make up his mind until mid-January. He’s trying to gauge whether he would stand a solid chance against incumbent Supervisor Brad Mitzelfelt, a resident of Wrightwood.

Cactus Thorns: The Ghost of Ebenezer Scrooge, NATIONAL CORE Senior Housing

UPDATED 12-25-2011, 8:10 pm-PST:
National Community Renaissance CORE affordable senior housing is coming to Yucca Valley, California.
“Management failed to listen to health and safety complaints, giving the excuse they had no money in the budget. And now they are evicting me.”
National CORE (hereafter CORE) is the genetic Doppelgänger of Ebenezer Scrooge according to Cliff Lindquist, a senior who lives at the CORE’s Juniper Senior Village Apartments in Escondido, California.
Lindquist says, “It’s a hell house”. Lindquist is so disgusted with CORE’s he adds, “It’s some kind of gulag or gestapo.”
Lindquist’s holiday retaliatory eviction process comes at a bad time of the year for Lindquist. The manager of the CORE facility, Griselda Cabrera, at the Juniper Senior Village Apartments, denies the charges. Cabrera informs Lindquist — whom she calls a “Gringo” — it’s not a retaliatory eviction.

iePolitics: So is it Ruthie, the figure skater, or?
We have suggested on this blog many times in the past that the crack(ed) legal Beagles of the Fourth Floor of the San Bernardino County Government Center have a shelf somewhere in their fancy offices that contains a copy of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and all subsequent civil rights law, such as the ADA, with an inch of dust on it. I think we are still awaiting for one of them to pick it up and actually read it, especially the part about discriminating based on disabilities.
We know they are too busy as evidenced by the 30 or so firms they contract their work out of because they are so overworked up there. Or are they?
KITV: UPDATE: Federal judge rules for temporary return of dog to disabled veteran
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) – A federal judge in Sioux City ordered the temporary return of a service dog to his disabled owner. In November, Jim Sak, a retired Chicago police officer, moved to Aurelia, Iowa with his pit bull mix, to help his ailing mother-in-law. The issue is there’s a ban on pit bulls within city limits. The dog, “Snickers”, was taken away, and Sak sued the city of Aurelia to get him back. In federal court Wednesday morning, a judge granted a preliminary injunction meaning Sak will get his dog back until the lawsuit is over. The court will ultimately choose whether the dog can remain in the city permanently.

iePolitics: Blog changes
The blog is changing effective January 1, 2011 at 12:01 a.m. Everything on the blog up until that point will continue to exist at iepolitics.net.
I am going to start iePolitics.com over from scratch. There are a few reasons for that.
First, we’ve gotten a bit wimpy lately and I don’t like it. It’s time to get back to business in California’s most corrupt county.
Second, the blog is getting slower and slower. It’s time for a new format and to get away from some of the dead weight.
Third, a new year is a good time for a new beginning. It’s time to push some things behind me and start anew with a fresh and sassy attitude.
KTIV: UPDATE: Aurelia, IA man says goodbye to service dog
Editor’s Note: I swear I have such disdain for all government officials. If they keep this crap up, one day enough people will be fed up and we will start to see lynchings or some other type of mob actions. Our government has totally gotten out of control.
AURELIA, Iowa (KTIV) -
A ban on pit-bulls in a Northwest Iowa town has left a disabled veteran fighting to get his dog back.
Jim Sak, a retired Chicago police officer, is suing the city of Aurelia, Iowa.
The issue, a ban on pit bulls in the town. But the dog is more than a pet, he is also a service dog.
Snickers is a five and a half year old mixed breed dog, part boxer, part lab, part pit-bull. But that last breed raised the eyebrows of city government.

iePolitics: So Jeff, are you enjoying yourself in Lake Arrowhead? – Originally published December 24, 2010
Editor’s Note: It’s been a year since this was published. Rex will be out soon. At this point, of the Colonies Four, I do not know who is guilty of what. I will say karma sure is a bitch. I wonder if they realized when they sold Rex down the river to protect themselves they knew what they were bringing on themselves. A year sure makes a difference, doesn’t it boys? Any lessons learned? I doubt it. There is a very long trail of people some of you have used and then discarded like trash, isn’t there? Bet that karma is far from over. Remember my crystal ball. You should have listened the first time. Merry Christmas.
While Rex is sitting in jail for a “conspiracy” he “committed” with you, you’re enjoying Christmas with your family at one of your other homes in Lake Arrowhead. I’m sure he is enjoying his peanut butter and jelly sandwiches while the Burums and Richards and other Colonies partners are enjoying what . . . prime rib, roasted goose, caviar, wine, and all the fixings. Any Rolex’s under the Christmas tree?
iePolitics: Those highly paid, top-notch county attorneys
At my last worker’s compensation hearing, the county’s attorney told the judge that she was trying to show that the harassment I faced on the job “is all in her head.” And, of course, that has been the county’s contention all along, which has been their justification for conducting HR investigations and refusing to interview a single one of my witnesses. They have gone so far as to deny other investigations have been conducted and employees given discipline. Again, it is all in my head and the heads of those who have been called into administrative hearings and brutalized by lying Human Resources Officers.

I looked and looked for this specific song never thinking the only version I could find would be from an old Lawrence Welk show. There are apparently a number of songs with the same name. We did not appreciate the music at the time.

iePolitics: Frustration
Yesterday I was a bit frustrated as evidenced by my Editor’s Note on the “No room at the inn” article. I was using a library computer and almost got the article done when the library censors decided to strike again. I had both the Examiner and the BillPostmus.net windows open when the censors decided that they were inappropriate for county computers. I tried everything to no avail. Finally, I cleared the cache and it allowed me to go back into Examiner but not BillPostmus.net. However, it would not allow me to do much, thus an article posted with few hyperlinks, etc. It censored me a second time and I gave up. So the blog entry was a bit curt as I was not a happy camper.
I added a link today so you can actually get to the story. Despite the lack of hyperlinks, my story once again was selected for the front page so we received a lot of hits despite the county’s attempt to the contrary.
Examiner.com: Christine Haslet: Saving one Devore Shelter dog at a time
(San Bernardino) – Perhaps they do it because they once knew the feeling of being alone and scared themselves. Maybe their hearts are touched into action by those terrified eyes staring back at them through the cold, stainless steel bars, desperately hoping someone, anyone, will come to rescue and love them half as much as they will love in return. Whatever the reason, animal rescuers know first-hand the rewards, and heartache, of helping those of God’s creatures that others have forgotten, neglected, and left to be killed.
Rescuers must have hearts of gold and emotions of steel to deal with the death and abuse they witness with each new day. From uncaring shelter workers to backyard breeders and puppy mill owners who sell sick animals, or irresponsible owners who allow their pets to breed and breed again only to dump the results in someone else’s yard to clean up the mess, they see the dark, heartless side of pet ownership.
Christine Haslet is one such animal rescuer. She realized a need and set her sights on making change in a system that is mostly uncaring and selfish and, often times, corrupt to the core. She picked the worst of the worst of Southern California’s high-kill animal shelters to “reform,” the infamous Devore Shelter.

I received this email a little while ago:
Apple Valley Animal Services Needs Your Help!
If you are monitoring your e-mail this morning, AVAS needs your assistance. I am leaving for an appointment in about 10 minutes and need to get the word out quickly. On Monday, we discovered that someone had abandoned nine puppies near our employee parking exit. Sadly, today we confirmed that one of the puppies, which was not doing well is PARVO positive and will need veterinary care. This means that the other eight puppies have been exposed as well. As you know, our shelter is not designed for treating PARVO positive dogs because it increases the chance that other dogs could be exposed. Continue reading

Examiner.com: No more room at the inn
Editor’s Note: Yes, I do realize some of you really hate the animal stories. But it is only because of the income from Examiner.com that I can keep the blog going. I really need your clicks.
(Apple Valley, CA) – My morning started off as mornings usually do. My alarm went off. Since my Devore Shelter rescue, Roxie, came to live with me, I have learned I had better pay attention to that alarm since it I also my cell phone and I really can’t afford to replace it regularly.
Roxie does not like the sound of my phone’s ringer−the sound of an old-fashioned telephone. The sound is so loud it could raise the dead, which is the exact reason I need it as my ringer first thing in the morning.
So far I have found my phone outside next to Roxie’s water bucket twice−fortunately she missed both times; buried as far under the bed covers as she could get it; and most recently, in her mouth with alarm going off full blast while she used her nose to open the toilet. Thankfully, Roxie has not mastered opening the toilet cover yet. But I digress greatly.

Examiner.com: Board of Supervisors declares war on police union; pays off with concessions
Editor’s Note: As always, we appreciate your clicks, comments, suggestions, etc.
(San Bernardino) – Last week the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors voted 3-2 to impose more than 14 percent in cuts on members of the Specialized Peace Officers Unit of the San Bernardino County Safety Employees Benefit Association (SEBA), the union representing sworn peace officers. Supervisors Neil Derry and Brad Mitzelfelt voted against the measure. Today, 73.5 percent of the unit’s membership voted to accept the arbitrator’s award they had previously rejected, thus avoiding the deep cuts.
“We’re proud of the Specialized Peace Officers for choosing the terms of their employment rather than settling for an imposed solution,” said Board of Supervisors Chair Josie Gonzales. “These public safety professionals have joined a growing number of county employee groups who have recognized the current economic realities and agreed to terms that will help avoid layoffs and allow the county to continue to provide an acceptable level of service.” Supervisor Gonzales is one of the three county supervisors who voted in favor of imposing the cuts and who is under federal scrutiny in two FBI raids.

Huff Post Illinois: Illinois Debtors Thrown In Jail: Lisa Madigan Working To Stop Debt Collector Arrest Warrants
Editor’s Note: Unless the laws have changed here in California since I worked for the Marshal’s Office, this very same thing happens in California. You are not thrown in jail for owing a debt. You are thrown in jail for not appearing in court on an Order of Apperance of a Judgment Debtor (ORAP) or Order of Appearance of a Debtor of a Judgment Debtor. When a defendant or debtor of a judgment debtor (usually the employer of a defendant) fails to appear, the creditor can ask that a civil bench warrant be issued. Bail is set at the amount of the debt. We used to give civil bench warrants very high priority (can’t remember why). More often than not, the defendant would post bail, which would be forfeited. Collection agency agents are scumbags who will file false paperwork so that can hopefully get the CBW.
I actually had someone show up at my house once and serve me with an ORAP for someone unknown person. I told them repeatedly I had never heard of the person and provided them with ID. They filed a proof of service anyway. They didn’t expect me to be defiant enough to show up in court and tell the judge what happened. There were a couple of unhappy campers in that courtroom that day.
First Posted: 12/12/11 09:26 PM ET Updated: 12/13/11 05:32 AM ET
Some Illinois residents struggling to pay off their debt have yet another thing to worry about: getting thrown in jail.
As WBEZ reports, creditors in the state have figured out ways around laws that prevent them from putting debtors in jail, and the number of people being issued arrest warrants linked to unpaid bills is growing. Collection agencies can reportedly file a lawsuit requiring a court appearance, and if the defendant doesn’t show up for their hearing, an arrest warrant can be issued.
The practice has been happening more often in a stagnant economy, and Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan wants to do something about it.

iePolitics: Any of you happen to hear Erin Brockovich on Coast to Coast last night?
I try not to listen to Coast to Coast because if I have reception for the show it means I’m sitting in a dark parking lot somewhere by myself. Coast to Coast is hardly a show that helps one get a good night’s sleep even if one doesn’t believe a single guest or caller on the show. But sometimes while I’m blogging the silence is deafening and I end up turning on KFI. Such was the case last night.
I listened to the show for quite some time before realizing who the guest was. It wasn’t until the water contamination in Hinkley was mentioned that my ears perked up and I actually paid attention.

Huffington Post: James White, Detroit Man, Alleges He Faced HIV-Related Job Discrimination At Dental Office
Editor’s Note: Certain things upset me greatly. More often than not these days, those things are things that remind me of the last three years I spent working for TAD. When I received the petition on this story from Change.org, it caught my eye because it so totally reminded me of the harassment I, along with a number of our readers, have suffered at the hands of co-workers and county management for having various disabilities. I know I was taunted by several co-workers and Human Resources refused to do anything about it. Several other county employees I know were as well and at least one committed suicide. The county, of course, has no problem with such workplace harassment because it is not their money that goes to settle lawsuits. County Counsel has unlimited funds to spend on attorneys and court cases in expectation that they can out spend and wait out any employee who fights back.
If you read all of the story below, you will see an employer out of control. San Bernardino County is no different. Exactly what happened below could, and probably has, happened in San Bernardino County many times over. It is California’s Most Corrupt County.
Examiner.com: San Bernardino County to participate in Pets to Patriots program
Editor’s Note: As always, Naomi and I appreciate the clicks, likes, comments, Tweets, and subscriptions. I also should say that this is certainly a step in the right direction for San Bernardino County Animal Control.
(San Bernardino) – The San Bernardino County Animal Care and Control Division announced today that three county shelter locations will be participating in the Pets to Patriots program. Between now and the end of January, any U.S. military veteran can adopt an animal from one of three county locations completely free of charge.
“Pets can provide military families disrupted by absences of loved ones a calming presence of unconditional love and devotion or assist our soldiers in their readjustment to life back home,” said Third District Supervisor and former Marine Neil Derry. “And I believe efforts like this reaffirm our county commitment to the men and women who fight for our freedom.”

I’ve been receiving anonymous emails from those who identify themselves as current or former Devore Shelter staffers. The story from the Los Angeles Times below lends a certain amount of credibility to those emails. But as the article below points out, exactly those things have been happening only miles away in the city of Los Angeles.
LATimes: L.A. fires animal shelter worker over his euthanasia practices
Civil Service Commission says the technician failed to sedate the dogs he was trying to euthanize, brought dogs into a room with other dead animals and inserted euthanizing needles into jugular veins.
A veterinary technician at a Los Angeles city animal shelter was fired last week after officials found that he had subjected dogs to inhumane treatment while euthanizing them.
Manuel Boado, 64, was discharged by the city’s Civil Service Commission, which concluded that he failed to sedate the dogs he was trying to euthanize, brought dogs into a room with other dead animals and inserted euthanizing needles into jugular veins — a practice officials say was not permitted.

The Sentinel: Solvent Plume From Airport Threatening Chino Water Basin
The Chino Water Basin is being threatened by a spreading plume of solvent contamination in the water table, documents obtained by the Sentinel reveal. The pollution lies beneath what is otherwise prime real estate, consisting of undeveloped or former agricultural land east of Los Serranos and northwest of Prado Dam in the southwestern corner of San Bernardino County.
State and local officials have recognized at least since 1989 that perchloroethylene and trichloroethene have been emanating into the groundwater supply from Chino Airport.
Chino Airport is a county-owned and operated facility that covers an area of 1,097 acres which contains three asphalt-paved runways, several hangars, a few suites of executive offices and classrooms and the Planes of Fame and the Yanks Air museums, where aircraft restoration and preservation conducted by several different companies takes place. Previously, during World War II, flight training was carried out at the airport and after the war, hundreds of former combat aircraft were flown into Chino for disposal. Many of the planes were dismantled and melted into aluminum ingots by means of portable smelters which were installed at the facility.

The Sentinel: FBI Probing Prime Health Care For Alleged Bill “Upcoding”
For the second time in the last three months, Dr. Prem Reddy and his signature enterprise, Prime Healthcare Services, find themselves militating to overcome the interference of a substantial law enforcement authority in the effort to maintain and expand Prime Healthcare as one of the largest health care providers in the state of California.
In the most recent case, the FBI has reportedly interested itself in Prime Healthcare’s billing practices with regard to services rendered to elderly patients. The FBI investigation follows an unsuccessful effort by the California Attorney General’s Office to block Prime Healthcare’s arrangement with Victor Valley Community Hospital to take on a managerial and operational role at that struggling hospital.
According to three well-placed sources, the FBI is interviewing current and former Prime Healthcare employees with regard to billing practices at Prime Healthcare Services.
Prime Healthcare, which was founded by Reddy in 1985, is today the largest operator of medical facilities in Southern California and it owns 14 hospitals in California and one hospital in Texas.
