Senator Barbara Boxer: Supporting Tribal Law Enforcement

July 29, 2010

Dear Friend:

Today President Obama signed the Tribal Law and Order Act, a bill that I was proud to co-sponsor in the Senate because it helps give tribal justice officials the tools they need to protect their communities.

We know that our American Indian and Alaskan Native communities face daunting crime and public safety challenges.  Violent crime in Indian country is nearly twice the national average, and more than 20 times the national average on some reservations.

Scott Folkens: Arizona 1070 and tax increases

www.Folkens4Congress.com

1)  Today I joined dozens of American Patriots outside of Joe Baca’s office showing our support for Arizona’s law 1070.  The fact that 1 activist judge can overthrow the will of the people shows the need for major judicial reform!!  Our Founding Father’s never wanted the Judicial Branch to legislate from the Bench.  And for Judge Bolton to even pretend that Arizona’s law is unconstitutional gives evidence as to why the Founders believed that Congress should have the power of impeachment over judges who obviously are trampling on the will of the people.

iePolitics: Canary caught in a conspiracy?

It seems our favorite yellow singing Canary, Confidential Informant No. 1, “persona au gratin,” none other than Adam Aleman, has been caught in yet another lie.  Imagine that—not our little Adam!  Tell us it ain’t so.

Discovery has been trickling into defense counsel at a snail’s pace, if at all.  Imagine defense counsel Jim Reiss’ surprise when, while being questioned under oath in the Rex Gutierrez corruption trial, Aleman claimed he had interviewed over a hundred times with district attorney investigators.

Shireen Qudosi: Tea Party Protest Against Temecula Mosque Points to Rising Tensions Between Islam and Right Wing Groups

Reposted with authorization from author in an effort to bring forth different perspectives to the blog.

Summary:  The sinking ship known as the Southwest Riverside County Tea Party Citizens in Action Group spurs ignorance and causes further damage to Tea Party and GOP image.  July 30th plans to protest the existing Temecula mosque shows SWRC Tea Party is spurred by hatred of Islam.  By bringing dogs to mosque grounds, singing in protest of belief that Muslim women are forbidden to sing, and with local pastor claiming that the mosque will increase presence of Muslim extremists, group proves to be out of touch with reality.

Source._Irfan_Khan_LA_TIMES

Heightened tension between Islam and self-proclaimed American Patriots are on the rise. With the Ground Zero mosque protests inciting nation-wide Islamophobia paired with accusations of Tea Party racism, it’s no wonder that one of the biggest battle grounds that brings these two heavyweight issues face to face is in our own backyard – Temecula, California.

The city of Temecula has a Muslim demographic. The Muslim demographic have long since had a place of worship.  However, they needed time to raise funds to convert a basic warehouse like structure into a proper mosque. Continue reading

iePolitics: Changes in the blog

Change is in the air again for iePolitics.  I have the opportunity to write for several national on-line news sources.  I am not going to go into detail yet because I still have to pass the background check with one and firm up the details with the others.  They are freelance positions and I will maintain the property rights to my work.

What this means for all of you is that my work will be cross-posted here.  There are several reasons for that.

Bruce McMahon: Doreen Boxer and union busting: How it will end up hurting the client

Since Doreen Boxer and Lauri Ferguson have come to power, we as deputy public defenders have been told that everything that their administration has done has been for the benefit of our clients.  However, upon a closer look of the actions of Ms. Boxer and Ms. Ferguson, their actions have had the sole purpose of benefiting one entity: their own administration.  Their statements about the sole concern being the public defender client is a mere distraction to a much more serious conspiracy:  the breaking of our union and the destruction of our office as we have known it.

You may be asking yourselves how this may be so, but the evidence is there.  When Ms. Boxer made a statement to the California State Bar during a public hearing regarding Proposed New and Amended Changes To Rules Of Professional Conduct on October 7, 2006, she stated that she had “…walked into an office equally decimated…”  (Reporter’s Transcript, Page 37, lines 22-23).  Let’s be perfectly honest, Interim Public Defender Jerry Farber left our office in MUCH BETTER shape than we find it now, more than 4 years after Doreen Boxer took it over.  Under Mr. Farber, morale was in good shape, camaraderie was high, and people were generally happy.  Now in 2010, morale is in the toilet, units are broken up for too much camaraderie and people are extremely unhappy.

InlandPolitics: Oops! LA County District Attorney investigating Bell since March

www.inlandpolitics.com

Yes, Attorney General Jerry Brown repeatedly claims he’s all over the City of Bell salary scandal.

Brown’s office has subpoenaed thousands of city records. He’s giving city officials twenty-four hours to turn them over.

Otherwise one can infer search warrants will be the order of the day.

But, maybe Brown should have checked with Los Angeles County District Attorney Steve Cooley before embarking on his politically charged grand standing.

Yesterday Cooley revealed his office has a wide ranging investigation into Bell to include election fraud in addition to the salary issue. An investigation that started last March.

iePolitics: SBPEA update

As I mentioned in a previous post, there was a meeting on Saturday regarding the most recent stunt pulled off against San Bernardino County employees by our union, the San Bernardino Public Employees Association and our employer, the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors.  A game plan was discussed.

There will be a website up and running in the next week or so.  I will text those on my text list with the hyperlink as soon as it is ready.

The next meeting will be held in about three weeks.  It will be on a week night in the San Bernardino area.  The specifics will be on the website.

Tic . . . tic . . . tic . . . Mikey, Doreen, Paul, Josie, get yourselves ready!

iePolitics: So who is fornicating now?

San Bernardino County’s law firm, Boxer, Ramos & Stringer (remember Mikey likes to be in the middle), is at it again.  We learned of their speciality months ago when chief legal Beagle Ruth Stringer determined that fornication is part of the “deliberative process” and taxpayer monies spent for said fornication is not the business of the taxpayers.  We are supposed to take it in the shorts, literally.

Well our favorite ménage à trois has defied logic and sound legal reasoning yet once more.  Until recently the county reluctantly released information regarding the costs of civil litigation against former Assessor Bill Postmus, et al.  The investigation was originally capped at $250,000 but former Enron prosecutor and special investigator John Hueston went through that amount quickly.

From all appearances, the cost of the investigation/persecution has already exceeded $1 million or is quickly approaching that mark with nothing to show for it and likely no hope of ever showing anything for it except for a conviction and judgment against Adam Aleman.  Aleman is the only one to plead guilty and not file an answer.

ACT: What is an anti-corruption team?

In addition to what you read in the mainstream media, at just about every local agency in the Inland Empire, including Riverside County inland cities, fraud, corruption, political favoritism and abuse are present within the system.  The hardest thing, many times, is not detecting and attempting to fight corruption, but getting somebody with any authority to listen to and expose it for what it is, the misuse of public monies.  It is so important right now that we do something about this ever-growing problem of fraud, waste and abuse of authority and public resources, as our society seems to be at a “crossroads” involving our views about government and its place within the lives of its citizens and residents.

The catalyst for this political misbehavior may at the same time lead to its timely demise.  With our current economic downturn, it is becoming more difficult to distinguish between “scam artists” out in the general public and those that we have elected or have been appointed to represent our collective public interests.  This situation has come to a head, in large part, due to the limited public funding levels that have arisen in this economic downturn, resulting in dwindling personal incomes and the associated losses in available revenues used to fuel our governmental “machine.”

Matt Munson: Yard Sales Limited in City of Ontario

I just received a notice that the city is going to restrict yard sales. Four weekends per year is sort of inflexible when you have people moving or having estate sales. With the economy still not as exceptional, people are still foreclosing from their homes.

I know the city wants to make sure people are not regularly doing garage sales day in and day out or regularly featuring new merchandise or items acquired for the purchase of resale. However there should be a procedure for emergency permits for garage sales for like $30.00. If you are moving to a new residence or you have a family member died where you need to do an estate sale it is not going to offer flexibility with the new policies. I think 1 emergency permit should be allowed per year to prevent the flexibility from being exploited. Continue reading

iePolitics: $500,000 Welfare Fraud Case in High Desert

iePolitics reported last year on multiple cases being referred to the San Bernardino County District Attorney for high dollar welfare fraud committed by county employees. One case alone totaled $400,000. And like the POST case, here we are more than seven months later and no criminal charges. There are other similarities to the POST case.

As with the Sheriff’s Department, HSS Administrators have attempted to cover the cases up but employees have leaked the information.  It seems the perpetrators could be county employees of note.  When I worked at the Victorville office, I had a number of high ranking county officials’ and political figures’ children on my caseload as well as many county employees.  We do have to wonder why Ramos hasn’t made this prosecution a priority.

iePolitics: “Even ‘they’ can’t be that stupid”

Every time we here at iePolitics have declared that San Bernardino County officials have reached the pinnacle of stupidity and arrogance, we are proven wrong.  Although the events of the past 24 hours are not surprising, they are appalling.

For weeks now there has been behind-the-scenes chatter about what exactly was going to be done to pull off the transfer of San Bernardino County Second District Chief of Staff Matt Brown to the Auditor-Controller/Recorder/Tax Collector office.  Many of us figured there would be wrangling to send Brown to the Assessor’s Office next year when the Recorder’s function is transferred to that department.  The question was how.

VVDP: Ringing Bell’s taxpayers

July 20, 2010 10:39 AM

Victor Valley residents who’ve been in the area for a couple of decades or so might remember the name Robert Rizzo. Rizzo resigned as Hesperia’s city manager back in 1993 to accept a similar position in Bell, a community of 37,000 located about 10 miles southeast of downtown Los Angeles.

Rizzo was being paid about $78,000 a year when he left for Bell, where he’s now the city’s chief administrative officer. His pay? Hold your breath. He now is paid $787,637 a year. Bell also pays its police chief a startling $457,000 a year, and according to a story last week in the Los Angeles Times, several of the city’s council members are paid at least $100,000 a year.

Rizzo, who achieved nothing notable when he managed the City of Hesperia, apparently sees nothing wrong with his pay, which is more than four times what any city manager in the High Desert is paid, more than double what the President of the United States is paid, and twice as much as Los Angeles’s police chief.

Bruce McMahon: Doreen Boxer And Morale Boosting: Don’t Believe The Hype!

It appears that Doreen Boxer and Lauri Ferguson have been making various trips to public defender offices around the county in order to “spend time with the troops” and boost morale.  Doreen and Lauri attended a potluck in the central office and then Boxer went to the Fontana office solo to see how everyone was doing.  All of this from the two people who are responsible for the lowest morale in recent office history.  Remember, this administration has been transferring individuals from certain units for there being TOO MUCH camaraderie (camaraderie = morale).  It’s almost like having someone shoot you in the gut and then ask you how you’re feeling as you’re laying there bleeding.

I think the story tonight illustrates perfectly one of the points in Jason Whited’s piece last week.  Because of technology, especially the Internet, past mistakes are not nearly as easily forgotten.  Mistakes in the last five years and on into eternity could come back to haunt us for a lifetime.

Next, the paper examined the polarizing and controversial history of his ex Chief of Staff, Jim Erwin, that culminated with his 2009 arrest at Derry’s office on felony charges related to the $102 million Colonies Scandal.

Sam Berdoo: Jason Desjardins and the Court of Public Opinion, Part I

Despite what to me defies common sense, and despite Jason’s own statements on the public record, he can not legally be prosecuted for any violation of the law that he may have committed in regards to the alleged theft of his illegally transported firearm.  Supposedly, that has a lot to do with “habeas corpus” and no proof that the gun existed. You will have to figure that out for yourself.   Let’s be correct, but not for Jason’s own behavior and his public proclamations, Desjardins would not be in this extremely embarrassing situation.

We need to ask ourselves, “In a time of rampant corruption in San Bernardino County, do we really need to have this kind of person in elected office”.  Elected Officials are subject to a higher standard of scrutiny than the general public. Like most politicians today, Jason is all for transparency, except when it pertains to him.  An Elected Official has a duty, responsibility, and an obligation to adequately explain and answer questions related to  the circumstances surrounding his personal conduct when such subjects are brought into the Court of Public Opinion.  The public has a right to know about the conduct, both  past and present, of their elected representatives.

Would someone from the Public Defender’s office please send me a rundown of what happened to cause Doreen Boxer and Ruth Stringer to sue the Public Attorneys’ Association and explain how it got to the point of the Public Attorneys’ Association now asking Judge Christopher Warner for approximately $80,000 in attorneys’ fees and costs?

iePolitics: Public Defender Issues

Here is a scan of what I received today: scan0001

There are two issues with what this informant claims.

First is the issue of being a county employee with a criminal record.  I have seen the county try to fire employees for less than drunk driving.  I have also seen them hire convicted felons.  In one case the employee went to state prison not once, but twice, on felony drug charges and was hired back both times while on parole.  So if you are a favorite, it doesn’t matter what you do.  And if you are not, you better not get a jaywalking ticket.

iePolitics: Josie Gonzales: Is she stupid or just plain dumb?

Almost two years ago I argued with a chief or staff or two as to why it would be wrong and unethical for the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors to bypass Fifth District Supervisor Josie Gonzales and give the vice-chairmanship to newcomer First District Supervisor Brad Mitzelfelt.  Josie had paid her dues; it was her turn in the rotation; and it would look bad, not only because she was the only minority and woman on the board, but also because the corruption scandal was just heating up and no one really knew at that time if Mitzelfelt would be dragged into it as Postmus’ chief of staff.  We wrote a number of articles chastising the board for even considering not electing her to the position she earned.

Today, I will tell you that was the dumbest position we ever took on this blog.  I don’t believe that Brad is justified in hating me for most of what he hates me for, but I have to admit I deserve his animosity on this one.

iePolitics: Hinkley vs. Havasu Lake

The post below is so long, I thought I would respond separately.  The biggest thing for me in this issue is that the HelpHinkley people try to make it sound as though Nursery Products is dumping raw sewage in the middle of their school yard.  Nothing could be further from the truth.

First, technically, the town of Hinkley doesn’t even exist.  It is an area outside of Barstow, near Lenwood.  There are no “Welcome to Hinkley” signs on any of its borders nor is there a traditional government-supplied sign indicating population,  elevation and boundaries.  So where Hinkley begins and ends is subject to interpretation.

First, this is labeling employees who are receiving welfare benefits as an inferior class.  Second, it is holding them to a different set of standards than other employees. Third, it is labeling welfare recipients who go to work for the county as an inferior class.  Fourth, it is holding them to a different set of standards than other welfare recipients.
