iePolitics: My nephew

Over the years I have posted plenty of videos from other performers, so I thought I should post one of my nephew. He is lead guitarist for The Death Corps. Yeah, not exactly my kind of music. Okay, not even close.

But the band recently signed with Virgin/Epic and their first non-indy album (yeah, I’m dating myself) is out in a few months. I can’t speak to the quality of this video as I can’t view it on my computer. Hopefully, it’s not too bad.

iePolitics: Coming to the Inland Empire

Maybe those of you who were children of the Sixties too can relate, but I came across this guy on a friend’s Facebook page.  I can’t listen to his music on this computer so I don’t know if I like it or not.  But his story caught my eye as it sounds so much like that of flower children of the Sixties who made some incredible music.  Here is an except from his Facebook page.  There is a link to his website at the end.

My name is Fox Elipsus, I’m from Oxford in England, and I’m an emerging singer-songwriter. If I added you, it’s because I am coming to play a free show in your area, and I think you might like my music & peaceful messages. I sound a little like Keane, Coldplay, Tears For Fears, George Michael, Duran Duran, Depeche Mode, Pet Shop Boys, New Order, Ben Folds, U2 or REM.

I often sleep in my car while on tour, so that I can afford to continue. I survive on CD sales, tips, and donations. This is my only income and I barely break even. I do not do this for money but without you, my fans and friends, I would not be able to do it. If you have a spare room when I play in your town, please offer! You can send donations by paypal to elipsus@gmail.com if you wish. All of my songs are free on my websites for you to listen to, and if you love them, please help me spread these messages of peace and these honest and heartfelt songs by purchasing my albums – I have released three double disc CDs, and each one is only $10 on http://www.elipsus.net

iePolitics: Starbucks music

Has anyone heard the song Starbuck’s started playing after Christmas?  It is the most horrific piece of music I have ever heard.  It is hard to describe but I shall try.

The background music is kind of a jungle beat, sort of what one would hear in a “George of the Jungle” cartoon.  The vocals make Bob Dylan sound like an opera singer.  It consists of two people with raspy voices screeching and screaming.

iePolitics . . . Hmm . . .

I spend a LOT of time these days in Starbucks as it is one of the few ways I can blog.  One thing that is very noticeable about Starbucks is their music.  I love the variety—everything from the Bee Gees to jazz to classical.  They really have some cool music and I enjoy it all.

I have been sitting in a Starbucks for about an hour now, and for the entire time I’ve been here, none of their regular music has been played.  Instead it is all in Spanish.  I happen to love Spanish music whether it originates from Spain, Mexico or any other Spanish-speaking county . . . Tejano, classical Spanish Guitar, Flamenco, Mariachi, Salsa, Tango and others.  Right now “Babaloo” is playing on the sound system.

iePolitics: The Good Cop Chronicles

Writing about the “bad cops” seems to only provide the subjects with a “badge of honor” as nothing happens to them. However, I always worry about writing about the good cops because I fear they will end up on someone’s radar.

I have had to give a lot of thought about writing this story.  But the story isn’t really about a “good cop,” although in my research I have learned he has done some impressive things.  It’s really a “It’s a small world” story, but also a story about one of my favorite subjects—music.  I debated about posting it, but the videos of Supervisor Neil Derry went over so well, I decided to give another county employee/entertainer some publicity.
