SBGrapevine: Will National Republicans Promote A Failure?

Ron Nehring

www.sbgrapevine.com

Members of the Republican National Committee have a lot on their plates in the early part of next year when the membership reconvenes for its biannual reorganization.

Chief among the RNC’s concerns—and what will likely remain at the forefront of media focus—is whether incumbent chair Michael Steele will remain in his perch. Steele’s numerous critics have lambasted the national party chief for overseeing party spending at a lesbian-themed bondage club in West Hollywood and a series of verbal gaffes that cast the RNC in a general negative light.

Already, Republican state party chairs from Connecticut and Michigan have expressed serious interest in challenging Michael Steele.

However, an important down-ballot race is brewing that is important for the future of the Republican National Committee.

California’s party chair, Ron Nehring, has signaled his desire to stand for RNC treasurer. For the good of that post and for the hope of good upcoming years for Republicans, Nehring’s ascension cannot happen.

SBGrapevine: Proposition Voting Guide

www.sbgrapevine.com

On November 2, 2010, California voters will not only be casting a ballot in important races such as such as for governor and United States senator, but also must decide on nine propositions ranging from the legalization of Marijuana to redistricting.  Ballot measures can be confusing, especially with the tactics used by special interests to influence voters.  Yes becomes no and no becomes yes.

SBGrapevine would like for you to consider the following when making your decision:

Proposition 19—Legalize and Tax Marijuana—No Position

Perhaps the most controversial proposition on the ballot, Proposition 19, would legalize and tax the sale of Marijuana, which will be in conflict with federal law.  Arguments against the proposition have bordered on silly with opponents claiming that school teachers and school bus driver’s could light up during their lunch breaks.

It is difficult for us to support legalization of a drug that is addictive  and can be harmful but it is also difficult for us to continue to support the hundreds of millions of dollars spent each year enforcing current laws and jailing those who do not abide by them for a drug that is little different than a similar legal drug—alcohol.  Therefore, we are taking no position on this proposition.

SBGrapevine: Republican Assemblywoman Connie Conway attempts coup against Minority Leader Martin Garrick

Assemblywoman Connie Conway

www.sbgrapevine.com

In a unexpected move right in the middle of the budget debate this past Thursday, Assemblywoman Connie Conway attempted a coup against Assemblyman Martin Garrick.  Although coups occur every two years or so, this came as a surprise because it is only three weeks until the election where Republicans could pick up additional seats.

Assemblywoman Connie Conway (R-34) represents an area from Barstow to Visalia, Bishop, Lucerne Valley and a host of other communities in between.  Conway is a freshman Assembly member and serves as the Chairman of the Republican Caucus, the second highest Republican position in the Assembly.

The Sentinel: Ramos Probing GOP Central Committee

The San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office has widened its investigation into allegations of wrongdoing on the part of current and past public officials and is now seeking documentation from the county Republican Central Committee, the Sentinel has learned.

As part of a probe that all parties concerned had hoped might remain unnoticed by the public at large, investigators for district attorney Mike Ramos have been calling upon the San Bernardino County GOP to turn over some “books” for review.

Sources tell the Sentinel that Nan Rider, the former San Bernardino County Republican Central Committee member  who was previously  chosen to serve as the secretary to the central committee’s elite ruling executive committee but was later relieved of that duty by current central committee chairman Robert Rego, has been less than cooperative in making the requested documentation available.

iePolitics: Sentinel article on SBGOP

There is an interesting article on the San Bernardino County Republican Central Committee on the front page of today’s Sentinel.  It can be found in the menu bar above.

Two thing strike me about the article.  First, after the fiasco earlier this year where District Attorney Mike Ramos tried to strong arm an endorsement the SBGOP refused to give him, this is not surprising from a district attorney who specializes in political payback.

iePolitics: Attention Apple Valley Town Council Candidates

We all know what Barb says about most of you on her radio show.  Now that she is running for town council, I believe each of you have the right to an equal amount of time on KCAA.  We would love to see each of you with your own show.  Why don’t you contact KCAA and demand equal time?  Just a thought.

I believe the same is true with her television show.  What a boost that would to your campaigns to have your own show every week until the election.

SbGrapevine: Editorial: “Corruption on Steriods”

County of Los Angeles District Attorney Steve Cooley

www.sbgrapevine.com

Today’s arrest of Robert Rizzo and seven others in the city of  Bell scandal made for a happy day for all citizens who are frustrated and sickened by the corruption that permeates every level of government.  The arrests also highlight what can be done when citizens join forces and let their voices be heard, combined with having elected an experienced prosecutor dedicated to the pursuit of justice.

The Bell scandal has more than one San Bernardino County connection.  As has been well publicized, Rizzo is the former city manager of two San Bernardino County cities, Hesperia and Rancho Cucamonga.  But the significance runs much deeper.

CRP: Democrats begin jockeying for 2014 Democratic gubernatorial nomination

Rep. Loretta Sanchez forms 2014 Gubernatorial Committee

With growing doubts surrounding Jerry Brown’s highly competitive race for Governor, Congresswomen Loretta Sanchez announced yesterday she’s forming a Committee to raise money for a gubernatorial run in 2014.

With Jerry Brown running an uninspired campaign for Governor, jockeying for the 2014 nomination for Governor has already begun,” said Crystal Feldman, press secretary for the California Republican Party. “Nervous Democrats, uneasy over Brown’s likelihood of capturing the Governor’s office and extending his decades-long tenure on the California state payroll, are starting to hedge their bets. Even Brown’s supporters are showing uneasiness that he has no plan to create jobs, lacks any proven ability to manage budgets and protect taxpayers, and has no clear path to restore California’s economy. After 40 years in politics controlling Sacramento’s back rooms, it looks like Democrats are poised to issue Jerry his gold watch and move toward the next chapter.

CRP: Boxer Stays Mum on Rep. Waters Ethics Investigation

The “Two Buddies,  Partners” Recently Appeared Together

SACRAMENTO — U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer has stayed mum on ethics charges brought against her longtime friend and ally Democratic Rep. Maxine Waters, despite recently touting their closeness.  The House Ethics Committee today announced that, having been under investigation since 2009, Waters is headed to a public trial on charges of ethics violations.

The two collegues appeared together a mere two weeks ago at an event in Inglewood, CA where Boxer detailed their close friendship: “When she came to the House, I went over to the Senate and we became buddies, partners. We call each other when there are tough issues. We help each other out.”

Sam Berdoo: Jason Desjardins and the Court of Public Opinion, Part I

Despite what to me defies common sense, and despite Jason’s own statements on the public record, he can not legally be prosecuted for any violation of the law that he may have committed in regards to the alleged theft of his illegally transported firearm.  Supposedly, that has a lot to do with “habeas corpus” and no proof that the gun existed. You will have to figure that out for yourself.   Let’s be correct, but not for Jason’s own behavior and his public proclamations, Desjardins would not be in this extremely embarrassing situation.

We need to ask ourselves, “In a time of rampant corruption in San Bernardino County, do we really need to have this kind of person in elected office”.  Elected Officials are subject to a higher standard of scrutiny than the general public. Like most politicians today, Jason is all for transparency, except when it pertains to him.  An Elected Official has a duty, responsibility, and an obligation to adequately explain and answer questions related to  the circumstances surrounding his personal conduct when such subjects are brought into the Court of Public Opinion.  The public has a right to know about the conduct, both  past and present, of their elected representatives.

iePolitics: The Significance Has Been Lost

As I read various blog comments and accounts of Rancho Cucamonga City Councilman and former San Bernardino County Assessor employee Rex Gutierrez’ corruption trial and non-verdict, I realize the magnitude of what happened Wednesday is lost on most.  Let me explain.

The District Attorney pulled out all stops to keep this case from going to trial any sooner than necessary due to his re-election campaign and fear certain information might come out during the trial.   Gutierrez refused to waive time further.  The District Attorney used every procedural delay available and the trial did not commence until the last possible moment.  The District Attorney was hoping a smoking gun would materialize but it never did.  The District Attorney’s hand was forced. iePolitics: Can justice be found in San Bernadino County? – Part 4

Four things belong to a judge: to hear courteously, to answer wisely, to consider soberly, and to decide impartially.

˜Socrates˜

In the first three parts we examined the District Attorney’s Office, the Conflict Panel, and the Public Defender’s Office.  It is now time to turn our attention to the Superior Court bench.

San Bernardino County has 72 judges currently assigned to it.  Almost every one of those judges who have been elected or appointed in the past eight years received the required blessing of the District Attorney’s office before being appointed or elected.  Other than the governor of the state of California, no one elected official has more influence over who sits as a judge on the bench in San Bernardino County than District Attorney Mike Ramos.  Some say that is how it should be—a good way to assure criminals are locked up for a long time. Fred Karger: Californian’s Against Hate

Editor’s Note:  This is a mailing list I ended up on I suspect due to the post I wrote about Chris Lancaster.  For the record, in addition to ET, Al Vogler, and Barb Stanton, Assembly District 59 candidates Chris Lancaster, Ken Hunter and Tim Donnelly all participated in one aspect or another of the very bigoted campaign against Anthony Riley and/or Corey Calaycay.  I’ve got the emails to prove it in case they try to deny it.  Anyway, I really don’t hate Mormons.  I have always had a lot of respect for them.  But I had a huge issue with both Chris Lancaster, who is a Mormon, and Tim Donnelly, who I don’t believe is Mormon, preaching God and then participating in such hateful work.

SACRAMENTO, CA – Today the FPPC, in an unprecedented ruling against the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, found the Salt Lake City based Church guilty on 13 counts of late campaign reporting.  The Mormon Church was fined $5538 in an agreement worked out ending the 19 month long investigation.  The Church was the primary backer of California’s Proposition 8, which ended gay marriage in California two years ago.   The Mormon Church initially admitted to spending only $2078 to pass Prop 8.  When I filed my sworn complaint on November 13, 2008, they instantly attacked me. So, you are trying to tell me that your bigoted, hate-filled tirades against public officials and candidates alike were all your own idea and Al Vogler and Barb Stanton have nothing to do with it?  The three of you were a part of stalking candidates, including their families and young children, and making outrageous claims.

So ET and Al, is it true you two are having a homosexual affair?  That is what we are hearing.  We hear that once you two were discovered together, you went on this rampage against anyone you thought might expose you.  Inquiring minds want to know.

Al, your daughter gets on here and claims that all elected official have to do is “come clean” about their sexual preference.  Well Al, I think it is time you come clean.  If members of the Board of Supervisors have to tell you what they do behind closed doors, then it is only fitting and proper that you tell us what you and Rita or you and ET do behind closed doors, don’t you think?

You don’t like it when the tables are turned on you, do you?  Give it some time, Al.  You, Barb and ET have gone too far this time around.  Your time is coming.  And we don’t stoop to the unethical and illegal behavior that the three of you do.  Truth will prevail, sooner than you think.

Seattle Times: South Carolina’s Democratic nominee as mysterious as his victory

MANNING, S.C. — Alvin Greene never gave a speech during his campaign to become South Carolina’s Democratic nominee for Senate. He didn’t start a website or hire consultants or plant lawn signs. There’s $114 in his campaign bank account, he says, and the only check he ever wrote from it was to cover his filing fee.

During a three-hour interview, the unemployed military veteran could not name a single thing he’d done to campaign for political office. Yet more than 100,000 South Carolinians voted for Greene on Tuesday, handing him nearly 60 percent of the vote tally and a resounding victory over Vic Rawl, a well-known former judge who has served four terms in the state Legislature.

“I’m the Democratic Party nominee,” Greene said at his father’s rural home in central South Carolina. “The people of South Carolina have spoken. We have to be pro-South Carolina.” Continue reading

iePolitics: Mudslinging Versus Telling The Truth

Someone asked if revealing Don Kurth’s background isn’t mudslinging and therefore unethical.  This is how I would answer that question about any candidate.

Anyone who applies for a job goes through a background check.  The potential employer is allowed to review the results of that background check and determine based on those results if the applicant is suited to be hired.

In the case of an elected official, we the public, are the employers.  We have the right to know what is in all candidates’ backgrounds before we elect them to public office.  EVERYONE has skeletons in their closet and it is up to us to decide which skeletons we can live with in our elected representatives and which ones we cannot live with.

In the modern political world, well-financed candidates have checks (there is a term for it I’m still too sleepy to remember) run on themselves and their opponents to determine what can be used against them and to find ammunition against their opponents.  One of the biggest mistakes candidates make is to try to hide their deficiencies or lie about them when found out. iePolitics: More on Judge Lemkau and Baby Wyatt

Someone has stirred the pot today besides for Paul Schrader.  It has forced me to stop long enough to post a little more information on this subject.

First of all, here is the press release from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department: Baby Wyatt.   As you can see, there is no mention whatsoever of a police pursuit. Here are a few additional details I have been made aware of.

Homosexual . . . gay . . . faggot . . . dyke . . . lesbian . . . and a host of other kind and not-so-kind terms we commonly hear at Republican functions are part of the dirty little secret of the Republican Party.  I have recently attended a number of Republican events where mostly the ultra right-wing of the party have been in attendance.  I have listened to discussions of Harvey Milk Day, gay marriage, and other homosexual-related topics, discussions that are filled with hate and intolerance.

What strikes me most is the hatred I hear in people’s voices as they talk about an “abomination unto God” all the while discussing the importance of honoring God and living a righteous life.  I have to wonder if these people realize how hateful and bigoted they really sound. Continue reading

Candidate for Sheriff Paul Schrader discusses concerns from San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Staff.

SHERIFF PAUL SCHRADER 2ND AMENDMENT SHERIFF

During the past three months I have had discussions  of importance with some San Bernardino County professional staff,  deputies, detectives, sergeants,  lieutenants and 1 captain.

One area of concern is the Mini 14 rifle.  Most sworn staff do not like the Mini 14′s.  I prefer the AR 15 over the Mini 14.

The following evaluation is based on law enforcement evaluations in the USA. The Ruger’s Mini-14 is not as reliable or accurate as AR-15 rifles, which was discovered in an  impartial evaluation of the two rifles in a head-to-head comparison. I think we need to give the deputies the opportunity to purchase and carry AR 15′s on patrol.  I will also authorize them to take them home for protection.

I will implement the AR 15 program after I am elected sheriff.

Another area of concern is the Hoops’ good ol boy establishment in the Department. I will immediately begin to work on transparency within the ranks of our Department to break down the good ol boy system. This will help regain trust with the executives and staff in the Department. The promotion system and discipline system will be improved to help remove the good ol boy system. It will also be fair and transparent.

The last area of concern I will address at this time is professional staff.  I will ensure the professional staff receive the training and respect they deserve as members of our Department.

Thanks SBSD!!!!

Candidates Ed Montgomery and Paul Schrader Host Public Information Session on Victim notification GPS**TONIGHT**5/20/10, 6:30 p.m.

SHERIFF PAUL SCHRADER 2ND AMENDMENT SHERIFF

Candidates Ed Montgomery and Paul Schrader Host Public Information Session on Victim notification GPS

Judicial candidate Ed Montgomery and candidate for sheriff Paul Schrader host a public information session on Thursday, May 20th in Rancho Cucamonga about GPS with victim notification. The candidates encourage all interested members of the public to attend because this information will save lives.

Victim notification GPS allows a potential victim of violence to be instantly notified when a person they have a restraining order against enters within the forbidden perimeter established by that order. When a potential threat enters the area a victim can use that warning to take evasive action and protect themselves. This technology prevents any chance meetings in public places in addition to locations outlined in a court order. Judges and law enforcement have the ability to independently verify the compliance to the restraining orders established in their court.

Ed states “This technology can and will save lives, and I want to do everything I can to bring it to the family court system in San Bernardino County”  He adds that “I look forward to using another tool on the bench to protect the children of our community.”

Paul Schrader in addition to saving lives focuses on how as sheriff this system can greatly reduce the public costs associated with needless murder and reduce calls for service related to officers having to come out to enforce protective orders. “When a potential violator knows they will get caught, many of them stay home and find something else to do.”  Paul speaks from his experience as a homicide detective that “Sadly I have personally worked on too many murder cases where the victim would still be alive if they had victim notification GPS.” Continue reading

I am very disgusted right now with Lewis Homes and one of the candidates they heavily support.  That candidate is Acquanetta Warren.  Dirty campaigning is expected in any race.  But some things cross the line.  Acquanetta, of all people, should have a deep understanding of the concept of bigotry and know how it feels to be discriminated for something over which one has no control.  And sometimes that bigotry is based on false accusations. Candidate for Sheriff Paul Schrader says, “Let’s Roll on Community Debates for Sheriff’s candidates in San Bernardino County!”

From the Headquarters of Paul Schrader, Candidate for Sheriff-Coroner, San Bernardino County.

Date May 5th, 2010

Let’s Roll on Community Debates for Sheriff’s candidates in San Bernardino County!”

Voters hoping for a San Bernardino County Sheriff’s candidate debates before deciding who to support in next month’s election are out of luck so far. Candidate Paul Schrader Sheriff/Coroner had worked with local radio talk show host Barb Stanton to schedule a forum in May at Victor Valley College with candidates Rod Hoops and Mark Averback. All three candidates had agreed back in April to appear in this forum. Barb Stanton was informed on Tuesday, May 4, 2010, by David Ellis, Hoops’ campaign manager, that Hoops would not participate in the forum. Ms. Stanton asked why and Mr. Ellis said neither of the other candidates have enough money for us to be concerned with it.

I believe the voters need the opportunity to see the differences in the candidates. I believe in voter choice and I think the statement regarding who has enough money, shows a disconnect by the current administration with the voters in the county.

I attended my first tea party tonight.  It was actually last night as it is now 12:27 a.m.  Tim Donnelly, candidate for 59th Assembly District, was present and I had a few minutes to chat with him.  I promised him a positive article and there will be one . . . tomorrow, actually later today.  Right now I’m too tired and still have a long drive home.

I can see why people are hooked on the tea parties.  I do have a question for the candidates.  Why aren’t more of you attending the tea parties?  It’s a chance to meet people who absolutely vote and are passionate about it.  I didn’t notice any of the stereotypes that mainstream media lead us to believe about the tea parties.  It was just a lot of people who care about their government and want to see positive change.

Goodnight to all!  More about this and Matt and Barb and whatever else comes our way tomorrow.  Hopefully, some good enchiladas and salsa too!

iePolitics: Paul Bosacki Recall?

I am flat out pissed off enough today to suggest this.  The county has made sure I have plenty of time on my hands and I really need a good project to work on.

Paul Bosacki, ET Snell, Al Vogler, and Barb have to be among the worst bigots and racists I have witnessed in my lifetime.  I can only imagine what people outside of the Victor Valley think of us if they view some of what is being done up here by these four.  And the sad part is people from all over the world drive by on the interstate and can view their handiwork.  They must think the Victor Valley consists of nothing but rednecks.

Anyway, I’m serious about the recall.  Everyone is in a “throw the bums out” sort of mood.  Bosacki and his bigoted ideas need to go.
