iePolitics: A Legacy of Malfeasance – Part 1

Back in the days when I worked for the San Bernardino County Sheriff”s Department, I used to say that a prerequisite to being a cop was being a pervert.  Now mind you I was Captain Michael O’Rourke’s secretary and had the responsibility to type a lot of the reports that became part of the Victorville Sex Scandal involving current Safety Employee Benefit Association president William “Beef” Abernathy (see Link 1 and Link 2).  If you read Link 2, you will see that even back then “cover-up” was the name of the game.  But the internet and blogs didn’t exist so it was easier.

Of course, that was during the reign of Floyd Tidwell whose little black book was as infamous as Jean, his main mistress, and now that his poor first wife passed away, his new wife.  I will say that Jean was patient.  But I digress.

Since Tidwell there was Dick Williams, whom I can say honestly I never heard of philandering (not that that means anything); Gary Penrod, whose philandering will play an integral part in this entry; and current Sheriff Rod Hoops, whose “Captain’s Private Stock” we shall discuss in a later piece.  So when you have perverts running a department, it becomes even easier to paint all cops with the same brush.

iePolitics: So Where Has The Sun Been All of This Time?

The story below on Captain Gray, his wife, and the falsified P.O.S.T. certificates has been on our blog since last year with a heck of a lot more detail than is included in the Sun article.  Although I’m glad Sheriff’s candidate Rick Averbeck was able to get the media interested after months of us trying, it does seem opportunistic. iePolitics: A Tip About the Sheriff’s Office and the Department of Children’s Services

iePolitics has been contacted by several employees regarding an apparent change in policy regarding the questioning of children who claim they are being abused by their parents.  The information provided is disturbing at best.

Because I consider this to be a sensitive subject, I sent a public information request today to Sheriff Hoops, Deana Avey-Motikeit, and David Wert, asking for the basis for the change in policy and a copy of the written policy.  So far no response but I will give them until sometime tomorrow. SUN: Medical marijuana patient still in custody

Editor’s Note:  I am bending my “no newspaper articles” rule because I consider this to be so egregious.  Here is a perfect reason to vote AGAINST Mike Ramos, Paul Biane, Gary Ovitt, and Rod Hoops.  It’s time the will of the people be upheld and none of these politicians are willing to uphold this law.

SAN BERNARDINO – A San Bernardino medical marijuana patient is languishing in county jail as prosecutors pursue charges against him for possessing and cultivating the controversial drug.Supporters of 51-year-old Don Lawrence say he was a patient at the THCF Medical Clinic in Riverside when police arrested him in October at his home. He had 12 marijuana plants, an amount police said exceeded state guidelines.

Lawrence and his two adult sons were jailed, and they all were released upon posting bail. But Lawrence was taken into custody again Jan. 12 and his bail was increased to $500,000. Prosecutors alleged he had two prior offenses dating back to 1994 and 1987 – the latter occurring more than 22 years ago.

iePolitics: Sheriff’s Hoops’ Campaign Forms

Well by now Rod I’m suspect you think you know the reason we’re using this blog to help your opponent.  Although you may think it has to do with January 1, it doesn’t.  It has to do with the fact that your deputies refused to take a burglary report and make an arrest when it was so clearly warranted—you know, unlawful entry into a dwelling to commit theft or any other felony.  I have talked to at least a half dozen attorneys (because, yes, you and the county are being sued) and they are flabbergasted that the Sheriff”s Department would not take a report under such circumstances, thus causing me to lose $20,000 or more in property.  Any other citizen would have received proper service, but I’m special.  You think you have the right to use your position to revenge your friends, such as Mark Uffer and Mike Ramos.  And I do have the right to use my blog to see that you are not elected to a new term.

Now that I’ve looked at your campaign forms, I guess I know why I was given the treatment I was.  I remember the discussion I had with the detective and lieutenant about the blog and one looked at the other and said, “I’m glad I’m not political.”  And the other replied, “I’m glad I’m not either.”  Lo and behold, guess who is on your list of campaign contributors?  Gee, if it isn’t the detective and lieutenant that were supposed to calm the waters.  So, once again you’ve given me “special” treatment, haven’t you? iePolitics: Sheriff Hoops Doesn’t Like Us!

iePolitics has learned that the Sheriff’s Department has blocked iePolitics and InlandPolitics on Sheriff’s Department computers.  I’d be willing to bet that we are not blocked on the computers used by the executive staff.

So what are you afraid of Rod?  Whatcha gotta hide?   We can always tell when we’ve got a politician running scared.  Thanks for the encouragement.

iePolitics: Another Tragic Coverup?

Most of us are aware of the tragic incident that involved Katie Tangle who was embroiled in ugly domestic dispute with her boyfriend Stephen Garcia that led to the murder/suicide that involved her young son Wyatt Garcia a few weeks ago.

We are also aware of the issues involving Judge Robert Lemkau and his calling Ms.Tangle a liar in open court and refusing to issue a restraining order against Stephen Garcia.  Judge Lemkau is catching hell from every direction as a result of his comments and inaction.

If you read the papers, Steven and Wyatt’s bodies were discovered up in Twin Peaks, California shortly after Stephen Garcia had threatened to kill his son.  Their bodies were found by deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department. Not much else was mentioned except homicide investigators were investigating.

iePolitics: The Sheriff’s Private Stock

Don’t worry Rod, I’m waiting to write about it in detail.  Actually, since so many of your staff members read the blog and I know the title will catch their eye, I thought I’d use it for now.  What I’m really looking for is some intel regarding fraud and corruption going on in the department right now.

Is it true that Sergeant Beavers retired?  If so, has he been criminally charged yet?

Is it true that a complaint has been filed with the District Attorney’s office regarding Captain Grey?  If so, when did that happen?  And what has happened to all of those who received falsified POST certificates?  Seems to me this is a real scandal that should involved criminal charges for all who participated.  Huh Rod? Paul Schrader: Transparency- San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department

Transparency

The questions asked at most of my events and from people all over the county is, what are they hiding, and why is the sheriff and his command staff not open and available to the public.

As part of my fresh start approach to the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department, it will be my duty to see that the Department is above reproach in order to restore and retain the respect and trust of the public. My first objective is to make all areas of the Department transparent, especially the jails. There will be an open dialogue maintained with the community and community activists who have questions regarding the Department, including the jails.

In order to bring justice to those wronged and closure to those who have done right, I will have all internal investigations expedited. The community will know the truth, and Deputies will be treated fairly and in accordance with “The Peace Officer’s Bill of Rights”.

This is the right thing to do.  Check out my website at www.sheriffpaul.net and let’s work together for a TRANSPARENT Department.

” Virtue, then, is of two kinds, intellectual and moral. Intellectual virtue springs from and grows from teaching, and therefore needs experience and time. Moral virtues come from habit… They are in us neither by nature, not in despite of nature, but we are furnished by nature with a capacity for receiving them, and we develop them through habit… Whatever we learn to do, we learn by actually doing it… by doing just acts we come to be just and by doing brave acts, we become brave…”

iePolitics: Sheriff’s Training Fraud–Where is Mikey?

I received the following email a little while ago:

Can you tell me what ever has happened to the case involving over 20 Deputies getting college credits when they did not attend the classes. It seems to just have gone away. This is serious because of the lying these people did and the amount of money they have taken from the County.

I asked our resident expert, AntiCorruptionUnit, as he is the one who broke this story, and here is his response:

Yes the case died a quiet death thanks to Sheriff Hoops.  Captain Bart Gray is now retired.  His wife was demoted from her position in the training division and sent back to the jail.

Just another cover up by the Sheriff’s Department. No prosecution if forthcoming in this matter.

So where is our crime-fighting District Attorney?  Oh yeah, political opps with Moonbeam.

Ensen Mason: Letter to the Daily Press

I am concerned about the recent “money saving” consolidation of our county’s elected positions.  We were told that this move could save up to one million dollars a year.  Did that take into account the $80,000 worth of raises that were given out as part of this consolidation? ($40,000 to Larry Walker, $30,000 to Dennis Draeger, $10,000 to Rod Hoops).  The raises are unnecessary and unfair.  The county has shed many other jobs, leaving those left behind to work harder and take on more responsibility.  Did they get huge raises?  Our county charter states “no increase shall exceed 4% of the annual salary of the elected official unless submitted to and approved by the voters of the county at a county-wide election.”  Do these raises sound like more that 4% to you?  Does it seem right that the Board of Supervisors can circumvent the spirit of our charter by playing a shell game with the duties?

iePolitics: Is it time to find new candidates?

It seems we are seeing more grass roots candidates this election cycle and the filing deadline is still weeks away.  Political experts say these candidates don’t stand a chance.  Without a bankroll they may not.  But what is more important is that most of our current entrenched politicos are feeling just a bit of heat.  And some of those war chests might have to be spent on campaigning rather than wining and dining their family and friends.  That is a good thing.

Sheriff Rod Hoops now has two competitors:  Rick Averbeck and Paul Schrader.  District Attorney Mike Ramos is being challenged by at least one, Dennis Stout.  John Pomierski and Dennis H. Labadie have both thrown their hats into the ring to replace Second District Supervisor Paul Biane.  We haven’t heard if a candidate has announced his or her intent to run against Larry Walker, but there is talk that will happen.
